The main function of paint is to decorate and protect the coating. Proper addition of thickening agent can effectively change the fluid characteristics of the coating system, so that it has thixotropy, thus endowing the coating with good storage stability and construction. Good thickener to meet the following requirements: storage to improve the viscosity of the paint, inhibit the separation of the paint, high-speed coating to reduce the viscosity, improve the coating film viscosity, to prevent the occurrence of the phenomenon of hanging. Traditional thickeners often use water-soluble polymers, such as hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC), a polymer found in cellulose derivatives. The SEM data showed that the polymerization thickener could also control the retention of water in the coating process of paper products, and the presence of the thickener could make the surface of the coating paper appear smooth and even. In particular, swelling emulsion (HASE) thickener has excellent anti-splash ability, and can be used in combination with other kinds of thickener, greatly reducing the surface roughness of coating paper.
