Silane coupling agent was developed by union carbide for use in fiberglass reinforced plastics. The molecular structure formula of silane coupling agent is generally Y-R-Si(OR)3(in which Y- organic functional group,SiOR - silane oxy group). The silane oxy group has reactivity to inorganic matter, and the organic functional group has reactivity or compatibility to organic matter. Therefore, when the silane coupling agent is between the inorganic and organic interfaces, the organic matrix - silane coupling agent - inorganic matrix bonding layer can be formed.
